The winner of the 2007 SABIAN PAS Scholarship (Canada) is Whitney Rowe, a percussionist and educator from Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Currently finishing her Bachelor of Music Education at Memorial University, St. Johns, where she is studying with professor Rob Power, Rowe has also studied with noted percussionists Tommy Murphy and John Wyre. In addition to playing percussion for the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Marc David, Rowe is also a member of the Scruncheons Percussion Ensemble, a St. Johns-based ensemble dedicated to improvisation, composition and performing new music. She also teaches music theory and is director of the senior wind band at H.M.C.S. Acadia in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia.

As winner of the SABIAN PAS Scholarship, Rowe wins an all expense paid trip to attend the 2007 PAS International Convention in Columbus, OH, plus a one-year membership to the Percussive Arts Society.

Commented Ian Turnbull, administrator of the Scholarship: "Whitney Rowe exemplifies all that is great about young percussionists in Canada today. Bright, talented, and dedicated, she is an inspiring individual and the perfect choice to win the 2007 SABIAN PAS Scholarship."
